Review:
Samuel L Jackson in a kilt carrying golf clubs? Yes, indeedy. He plays a master chemist who lands up in Liverpool having escaped the clutches of his boss, The Lizard, played by Meat Loaf. Ricky Tomlinson, aka Jim Royle of The Royle Family fame, plays a drug baron with piles and Michael Starke, Brookside's Sinbad, stars as a put-upon detective. Something for everyone! Review:
Joe Son makes only brief appearances in this movie, playing the Dr. Evil's hitman Random Task. But if you like Asian bears, Joe's performance is definitely worth checking out. (Though beware the scenes where Austin Powers takes his shirt off -- his fake chest hair is downright nauseating.)

John Goodman with a van dyke. Need we say more? Sam Elliott acts as the narrator. Jeff Bridges has a beard throughout the movie. Another bear is one of the bowlers, James G. Hoosier (who I swear I've seen somewhere else).

Featured Bears: Ritch Brinkley   Russ Tamblyn   Andy Richter

Review:
I expected this movie to be really bad. However it's intentionally tacky, incorporating it's own set of sea "legends" including Russ Tamblyn ("Twin Peaks" Dr. Jacoby) as a half-man, half-shark. Watching Tim Burton's influence on the movie reminded me of Terry Gilliam's stuff, esp. Baron Munchausen. The big bear interest here is Ritch Brinkley (Carl the Cameraman on Murphy Brown) who plays the ship's captain. Andy Ritcher (from Conan O'Brien) has a small part.

Review:
A cameo role by a stalwart British actor, Francis de Wolff, who plays the hefty, bearded Agrippa who tries assassinate Caesar, as played by Kenneth Williams. A simple enough task, but no. Fate intervenes and Agrippa and his fellow assassins are killed themselves! One of the best in the Carry On series, before the 60's caught up with them.

Featured Bears: Kevin Smith

Review:
Ahhh, Kevin Smith. Bear Icon in the making! This is his best movie as director, even if his onscreen appearance is more of an elongated cameo near the end. Gay men and women should all see this movie, about a straight guy (Ben Affleck, lookin' alright with that goattee)who unwittingly falls for a lesbian, who eventually becomes taken with him on a different level. They fall in love with each other for who they are, while their respective cliques and closest friends abandon them. This is risky territory, but well handled here. It's really a twist on coming out, but you're free to draw your own conclusions about a lot of things. The lesbian ultimately teaches the straight guy a few lessons about his own ignorance and assumptions of sexuality and "normal" behaviour. A great, smart ending that doesn't pander to the audience, and some wonderful, funny, frank conversations to get you there. Smith's films tend to have a TV or film student feel to them, but once you get past that I think you'll enjoy this. As for the Bear content? I'd say Smith's appearance as Silent Bob could fit your required daily allowance.

Featured Bears: Sean Astin   Brian Dennehy

Review:
A pair of aimless surfer dudes who just want to drift through life, discover girls (ick) and decide to settle down. This rather silly romantic comedy/drama has a double treat for bear lovers - primarily there's oh-so-cuddly cub Sean Astin with tons of shirtless scenes (and he's getting nicely hairy here). And then there's his mentor (in both surfing and Life), the always-woofy Brian Dennehy, who does a couple of scenes shirtless or in a wetsuit!

Nosher Powell, ex-stuntman, stars as the Prime Minister of Great Britain (!) in this mad comedy, directed by Peter Richardson, and starring many stars of the Comic Strip, who are now big stars, such as Robbie Coltrane. Loads of star turns from Angie Bowie and Paul McCartney, plus a small role for the Sean Connery of Heavy Metal, Lemmy, who at one point has his lights punched out by ex-soap star!

Steele plays Tor Johnson ("Lobo" in almost every movie he was in). He's really the only bear (no beard, but a pelt to envy), but the casting in this movie comes so close to the people portrayed (with the exception of Depp) that it's creepy. Martin Landau won an well- deserved Academy Award for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi.

Featured Bears: Simon Callow   Corin Redgrave   Robert Lang   Rupert Vansittart

Review:
The definitive English Bear movie, due in large part to the appearance of Simon Callow in complete full-on mood as Gareth, the older lover of John Hannah's character, an obvious Bear admirer. Other notable appearances include Corin Redgrave, son of the great actor knight Michael Redgrave, who is following in his footsteps, Robert Lang as Lord Hibbott and Rupert Vansittart, who plays George the Boor at The Boatman, who remembers his schooldays with relish! Okay, the last three are not Bears in the strict sense but how many chances do you get to legitmately call someone Rupert the Bear?!

James Gandolfini plays a character called 'Bear' in this movie. He is extrememly woofy and has a full beard. Just one look at this guy will convince you that he should be in your movie list and of course part of every bears video collection. He also plays Tony Soprano in the wonderful 'The Sopranos' in which you do get to see his nice hairy chest.

Review:
Classic Ealing comedy featuring the comedic skills of Alec Guiness and Peter Sellers, as well as featuring Herbert Lom and a cameo performance from camp comic Frankie Howerd. Two of the gang are played by two enticing British bears. Cecil Parker as the cowardly ex-Major with a bristling moustache and the working class but not so dumb ox Danny Green. Other eye- candy is provided by an uncredited Stratford Johns, Philip Stainton as a policeman, plus another uncredited actor playing another bobby on the beat who calls on the little old lady at an inopportune moment.

Review:
Released in the US as Two Smoking Barrels, Guy Ritchie's debut feature exploded onto the scene, inadvertantly making Vinnie Jones, an ex- soccer player, a star. However, those not into thuggish footballers, there is plenty of eye candy for Bear lovers. First of all, Steve Colins, the Irish boxer, who makes a cameo appearance. Stephen Marcus, as Nick the Greek, for the Chubbier end of the market. The late, great Lenny McLean, former bareknuckle boxer, as Barry the Baptist. Honours, however, go to P H Moriarty (the English James Cosmo), known to many as Razors in The Long Good Friday, immortalises the character of Hatchet Harry, who beats one poor unfortunate to death with a dildo! What more could you ask?

Review:
Funny yet moving portrayal of 8 gay men spending Memorial Day, Independance Day, and Labor Day together at a country home. Sort of a gay Big Chill or Four Seasons. Some may find the characters too stereotypical, the performances too cliched... I LOVED IT... laughed and cried. John Glover as good twin/bad twin, and Jason Alexander as the pudgy Broadway showtune-singing AIDS victim are excellent. From Terrence McNally's Tony-winning play.

Featured Bears: James Gandolfini

Review:
The plot revolves around various hoods and gangsters chasing after a priceless antique pistol called "The Mexican". Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts star as a neer-do-well hood and his whiny girlfriend. Gandolfini's character, a reserved but determined hitman who kidnaps Roberts as ransom for the gun, provides a welcome respite from the self-absorbed boorishness of the main characters. Gandolfini is a bear's wet dream and the best thing about this film: stocky, goateed, nice eyes, cuddly smile -- breathtakingly handsome. Overall it's not a great movie -- the ending is a big let-down -- but good enough for a Friday night rental.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Manos: The Hands of Fate

Year: 1988
Attributes: Color, NTSC, VHS
Rating:
Length: 97 minutes

Featured Bears: John (I) Reynolds

Review:
Widely regarded as the WORST movie ever featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000, "Manos: The Hands of Fate" is staggeringly bad in every imaginable way. Bad acting, bad script, bad effects, bad camerawork. Which provides plenty of comedic material for the satellite crew. The late John Reynolds plays Torgo, an eccentric groundskeeper with really big knees. (Trivia: supposedly he's a satyr with goat's hoofs but the MST3K silhouettes block the few shots where you can see them.) In this reviewer's opinion, Torgo's kind of cute for an Igor-like minion of evil, in a scruffy rough-trade sort of way -- but your mileage may vary. Regardless, this MST3K episode turned him into a minor cult icon.

Review:
Shane Meadows directs an all star cast, including Robert Carlyle, Kathy Burke and Rhys Ifans. Meadows has employed bears before, notably Bob Hoskins in 24/7, but here he outdoes himself. Ricky Tomlinson plays a country and western star with muttonchop whiskers and James Cosmo plays Billy a gangster after Carlyle's character who has gotten away with ill-gotten gains from a joint robbery. Strachan, who plays most of the movie in a head- brace (!)is one of Billy's gang. The gang has a penchant for nicking unusual getaway vehicles, including a milk float!!

Featured Bears: Eric Allan Kramer   Matthew Porretta

Review:
Pretty funny but not as good as some of Mel Brooks' other movies. Unlike Kevin Costner's Robin Hood movie, at least this one is *intentionally* funny. Plenty of merry men in TIGHT tights. Hirsute actors include Roger Rees (Sheriff of Nottingham), Mark Blankfield (Blinkin), Dom DeLuise (a medieval gangster), and a goateed Patrick Stewart in a cameo as King Richard. A very cute and cubby Matthew Porretta plays Will Scarlett. But the real woof material is burly Eric Allan Kramer as Little John. Broad chest, nice legs, and nice - um - tights. When he refuses the advances of a big Swedish woman, you begin to wonder...

Review:
Michael Bentine, ex-Goon and old Etonian, wrote this with director Robert Hartford-Davis and is a curate egg's of a gentle comedy that strolls effortlessly through a sunny day in the London of the Swinging Sixties. Apart from its cinematic curiosity value and some politically incorrect racial stereotyping, there are a myriad of cameos from British comedy stalwarts such as Norman Wisdom to Bernard Cribbins. For the chubby chasers, daddy- and bear-lovers, there is Fred Emney, Stanley Holloway, Terry- Thomas in shorts (as a Scoutmaster!) and a beautifully bearded David Lodge; for once not accompanied by Peter Sellers.

Guy Ritchie's superlative follow-up to his cult hit, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Something for everyone, as far as Bears and their admirers are concerned! From the cuddlesome features of the reborn Brad Pitt to the rotund pleasures of Sam Douglas as Dennis Farina's henchman, Rosebud (obviously a nod to Citizen Kane), with a side order of Rade Serbedzija as Boris the Blade and Jason Flemyng, unrecognizable with mullet and beard, from his previous outing with Ritchie. Also, something for the chubby chasers, with the appearance of Ade, the hopeless getaway driver. A steal, a deal and one to sit back, enjoy and relish the eye candy.

A romantic comedy with a difference. The central character is Dex, a twentysomething, who is a Bear in all but name. He's got a gut, he rides a motorbike and he works part-time as a kindergarten teacher. Strangely, he's not gay, but he has plenty of women friends. Charming, witty, intelligent. Review:
Not only the directorial debut of Kevin Allen, younger brother of Keith Allen, but also that of Rhys Ifans who went on to steal Notting Hill from Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. Anarchic, explosive, swearing in English and Welsh, plenty of sex although the relationship between the two central characters could be construed as mildly diverting. They share a bath at one point but the real diversion is Huw Ceredig, a beefy Welshman, who plays their father whose injury at work kicks off most of the mayhem contained in the plot. Also an interesting early appearance by the Scottish hunk Dougray Scott. Give him a few pounds, years and no visits to the barber and he's going to be extremely doable!

John Candy's final film. He plays a drunk wagoneer leading a caravan of disgruntled settlers back east, and is quite woofy with his full beard, as is the younger and relatively lighter Abraham Benrubi, who you might remember from "ER." Benrubi plays one of a group of degenerate brothers who accidentally gets drawn and quartered.
