The Approaching "Bear Lit" Book Boom

A spate of bear-themed books appears to be heading soon to gay bookstores everywhere. Haworth Press, who brought out the original collection of essays Bear Book: Readings in the History of a Gay Male Subculture two years ago, now plans to publish two titles next year. One is Les Wright's sequel to his previous effort, called (what else?) Bear Book 2. The second book is said to be a kind of satire, this time by a new author, whose working title is The Bear Handbook. These books are scheduled for release in early 2000.

Mark Hemry, publisher from Palm Drive Publishing, announced recently that he is seeking submissions for an anthology of already-published Bear erotica. Interested bearsmut writers can find info at www.palmdrivepublishing.com

Ron Suresha, who writes a regular interview series for American Bear, has announced that he is working on two new bear-themed publications. The first will be a collection of his interviews and discussions with various "celebearties" called Bears on Bears.

Not only that, Ron is now soliciting fiction submissions for Bearotica, a collection of all-new erotic writing for bears and the creatures that desire them. Both books are to be published by Alyson Publications. You can find his call for Bearotica submissions at www.alyson.com or by emailing him at bearotica@spdcc.com.
