SAO PAULO - The bear movement has gained popularity during the last year in Brazil. With the success of bear meetings promoted by Ursos de Sao Paulo G&M (Bears of Sao Paulo/Girth & Mirth), the gay media has begun to take an interest in bears. After interviews in gay magazines, web sites, newspapers and an invitation to participate of the most important movie festival of Latin America, the bear meetings became a respected event in gay scene of Sao Paulo. The bear group became respected and recognized by gay organizations.

At the end of 1999, Ursos de Sao Paulo were invited to join the organization meetings of the Sao Paulo Gay Parade 2000. (The President of Gay Parade Association is a bear). The Sao Paulo Gay Parade 2000 will be the biggest gay event of Latin America with over 100,000 people in the streets of Sao Paulo.

Because of this, and also to celebrate 3 years of bear movement in Brazil, Ursos de Sao Paulo are organizing a big event named First Ursos/G&M Sao Paulo Pride 2000 (www.ursos.saopaulo.net). From June 22nd until June 25th, the Brazilian Bears will host bear meetings in a disco, sauna, bar, `bearbecue` party and finishing in Gay Parade. Ursos de Sao Paulo are also organizing a donation campaign of warm clothing for poor people during the next Gay Parade (June 25th).
