IBR News and Contest Results

...will be posted here as soon as our trusty reporter checks in with us. Given the sky-high testosterone levels in the Bay Area and the fact that our reporter is quite a looker (and also single), we expect to hear from him in about, oh, a month or so. Seriously -- if anyone spots Mikey, give him a hug (or something more -- we did mention he's single, didn't we?) and let us know he hasn't been carried off by a horde of Alaskan truckers. We worry about such things. -Ed.

Bear Pride: Early Registration Over

If you've put off registering for Bear Pride, procrastinate no longer. David Wurster reminds us that the early registration period is now over, and the mail-in price is now $85. They're accepting mail and internet registrations on their web site. Registrations close on March 30th.

Shutterbear.com Updated

Keith from shutterbear.com
Lynn Ludwig recently updated his excellent website of bear pictures, shutterbear.com. The additions consist of 15 pages and over 300 images from Bear Bust 2000 in Orlando. The site also has a new section called Featured Bear, with pics and a bio from a selected lucky gentleman. His first choice is a rather handsome fellow named Keith. According to the site, a new bear will be featured sometime after IBR.

New TravelBears Group at Yahoo

With so many bears travelling to and from San Francisco this week, it seems like a good idea to mention the recent creation of a TravelBears group on Yahoo Groups. Says moderator Gordon Peterson:

I've just created a new mailing list specifically as a place for bears interested in exchanging travel information. Find bear-friendly lodging places, discuss the best ways to get to and from airports or train stations, local watering holes and other sights, good places with nice eye candy, lodging exchanges, upcoming events, and much more. Whether you're looking for friendly hosts or information about a planned destination, or maybe you just live somewhere and are willing to answer friendly questions about your area by bears planning to travel there, this is the place to do those kinds of things.

To subscribe, send email to TravelBears-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or sign up on the group's webpage at Yahoo.

Bearcelona 2001 Coming Up

Xavi writes that Bearcelona has updated their web site with visitors' information for their upcoming event in the Spanish capital from April 12-15. (The prices will be posted at least a month before the event, according to the web site.) Even if you're not attending the April event, their "local bear guide" seems like it would be generally useful for anyone who's just visiting that part of the old country and looking for bear-friendly places to visit.

Quick Bits

  • Bear musician Scudiero has posted some techno/ambient songs for Valentine's Day. The tunes can be downloaded for free from http://www.mp3.com/Scudiero. He describes the songs as "soft, instrumental" and "romantic". Sounds great!
  • Bearsinthecity.com, home of a serial that presents itself as the bear version of "Sex In the City," is back online after a server outage.
