Bob Donahue founded this site on his personal machine (skepsis.com) in Boston, Massachusetts, during April of 1994. Soon after, and not knowing of Bob's efforts, Kevyn Jacobs founded a similar site on his student account at Kansas State University. Realizing that they were duplicating services, and could better serve beardom if they teamed up, Bob & Kevyn combined their sites in early Fall 1994. RfB continued to grow over the years, until finally, Kevyn (who was doing most of the day-to-day maintenance) decided that the load was too big for just two people. So in Spring of 1996, the call was sent out for volunteers to help maintain the Resources for Bears site, and two brave bears stepped forward to meet this challenge: Mike Ramsey (April 1996) and Scott Hill (June 1996). In December 1998, both Kevyn and Scott asked to scale back their duties as they actually had real lives! So the call went out once again for new volunteers. Two new bears were selected from a list of wonderful applicants: Denny Colvin and Chris Griffith (December 1998). As the RfB website finished its fifth year and entered the new millenium, we continued to update the features and look of the site. As part of a major new direction, the RfB began to expand to meet the needs of international bears. Pablo Deambrosis (December 1999) came on board to translate key areas of the site into Spanish, and we hope to add other languages as future resources allow. In February 2002, we were pleased to add Randy Nerwick to our list of volunteers. In the Fall, Mike Ramsey retired from the RfB (September 2002) after six years of distinguished service, and Carlos Abreu joined us to assist with some of the behind-the-scenes work (October 2002). All of these folks donate their time, resources, and expertise to meet the task of helping the RfB stay online.
